Floor coating questions—answered without shortcuts

These answers cover common planning questions. They cannot replace product data or a site assessment, but they can help you ask for a clearer proposal and avoid claims that sound precise without enough information.

Preparation and product compatibility matter more than a coating buzzword. Exact schedule, cost, and repair scope depend on the slab, conditions, system, and room use.

Before choosing a system

Share slab history, old coatings, water, contamination, cracks, room use, desired finish, and deadline. Ask for named products and preparation. Do not choose from a single adjective such as premium, industrial, or lifetime.

During the quote

Compare boundaries, repairs, products, coverage, texture, cure, exclusions, and maintenance. Confirm what happens if hidden damage appears after grinding or removal.

After installation

Follow separate release times for walking, storage, rolling loads, vehicles, washing, and chemicals. Keep grit and winter residue off the floor, and inspect edges and joints seasonally.

Common questions

Is epoxy or polyaspartic better?

Each can be appropriate in different layers. Compare the exact products, exposure, working time, cure, and UV needs rather than choosing by name alone.

Can a coating repair structural cracks?

No. Coating and cosmetic repair are not structural correction. Displacement or continued movement may need qualified concrete or engineering review.

How long will the floor last?

No honest lifespan can be given without the system, slab, use, installation quality, environment, and maintenance. Ask for product and workmanship terms in writing.

Can the coating be installed over paint?

Only if the old film is proven sound and compatible, which is uncommon as a blanket assumption. Removal to sound concrete is often the stronger basis.

Will the floor be slippery?

Traction depends on texture, contamination, footwear, slope, and cleaning. Select and test texture for the real wet condition.

Can I park the next day?

Only when the exact installed system and actual conditions support that vehicle-traffic release. Foot traffic is a different milestone.

Does coating waterproof a basement?

No. Active leaks, drainage, foundation, and plumbing issues need their own solution. Some systems address defined vapor conditions but are not universal waterproofing.

Why do prices vary?

Removal, repairs, contamination, access, product build, broadcast, topcoats, texture, edges, and cure all change scope.
